hi, im joyce. i read about mutual funds and im interested in ivesting. what i am going to do now? can i just go to the bank and say i want to invest my money in mutual funds? do i need monthly payment or can i just give money now then leave it for 5 years? im a bit confused. pls help?

Hi Laurence. Technically, if we compare Variable Life Insurance to mutual funds in terms or rate of return, we’re like comparing apples to oranges coz they are two different products. Your money will always grow better in mf since it’s a pure investment vehicle, but it doesn’t have a safety net like what VUL products can give you. We can probably give enough justice if we compare VUL vs MF + Term Insurance, which I’m actually planning to do a write up.

However, if you’re asking on the ‘actual returns’ in figures, I’d say it’s almost the same. I just made a comparison on Sun Life’s VUL and Mutual Funds, looks like Mutual funds has a greater Year On Year and YTD values.

I’m about to retire within 2 months from my work here in the Middle East. All my savings are placed in Variable Insurance products and some in UITF – all in US$. I’ll also be getting my retirement pay in US$. I want to consolidate and diversify my funds by diverting some in Peso investments like mutual fund. Do you think it’s a good idiea or what better option should I pursue?
