Mutual Fund Question from an OFW

Yesternight, we received an email from someone who is also intrigued about mutual funds like we did when we first got to know about it. His/her name is Tani Rogers which later we found out is an OFW working in the Middle East. Good to know that we are getting audience from these group of people coz we really feel that this could make a big difference if most OFW will learn about Financial Planning.

This is our actual email conversation. So here goes nothing…

Dear Sir,

I have been checking your website as I have, in recent months, become interested in investing. One of the things that caught my eye is mutual fund as it gives a better return on your money and you do not have to have millions to get into it.

I expect a little extra money in the coming months and I would like to put it in mutual funds. Problem is no one I know knows anything about it.

What company should I approach? Do I look for some sort of an agent? Please throw some light into my predicament.

Thank you, Sir
Tani

Hi Tani,

Thanks for emailing me and it’s always a pleasure to be of service. It’s nice to know that a lot of people are getting aware of their financial aspect and would want to be financially independent in the future.
First think I’d like to know is, where are you located. There are actually a lot of companies that offer mutual fund. You can check this on the ICAP website if you haven’t (www.icap.com.ph – use Internet Explorer for this).

Some of the most popular mutual fund companies that we have put our money is Phil Equity (for equity), Optima funds (for balanced funds). Another company that I am soon to be affiliated with is Sunlife Financials. So, if you know anyone from the companies I mentioned, you may approach them and ask them to educate you first before putting in your money.

The reason why I asked you of your location is that, in case we’re just neighbors, I’d be happy to be your agent. But if distance would be a problem, having someone you know personally would be the best choice.

Regards,

Financial Guru
